Hypnotherapy

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we all enter at different points throughout our day. It is akin to a daydream where our mind naturally drifts off somewhere else. This provides our mind with an opportunity to work out important issues or remember important aspects of a life event even though we did not make a conscious effort to do so. We all enter this state naturally at various times of our life. This state of mind which encompasses a heightened state of awareness into our most inner thoughts can occur while driving, in the shower, on a walk, or at other times throughout our day.

When in a state of hypnosis, our defense-laden critical mind is in a resting position allowing us to take in the full breadth of our mind’s experience.  As you are reading these words you are analyzing what they mean and if they fit with your worldview and your view on this particular topic. If the words are a good match to your belief system then you will likely be open to the concepts your are reading about. If the words do not match your belief system then your protective mind will use its powers of critical thinking to reject the concepts and protect your beliefs. When in a state of hypnosis, this process is muted and you are able to relax and experience. This relaxation of the body and mind affords you a greater sense of openness and access to your deeper feelings, wisdom, and insights.

What is hypnotherapy?

In hypnotherapy, we use the state of hypnosis to address and target a specific goal that we feel will be beneficial and therapeutic for you. We use a relaxed mind to envision the life you want for yourself and your therapist acts as your guide in directing your mind toward your targeted goal. Hypnotherapy differs from hypnosis in that it involves not only a state of mind, but also a deep sense of connection and rapport between the therapist and your inner Self. Our goals can vary greatly and range from simply learning to relax, to overcoming a significant trauma, to altering an undesired behavior or fear. The hypnotherapy process usually starts with learning the power of creating one’s own state of mind and with learning how to relax down the body. From there, we cater the experience to your unique needs, goals, and talents.
